Technology is set to make life a lot easier in the McCallums washroom.
Whereas previously staff were loading batches of linen weighing up to 50kg into the washer; a new fully automated system is set to take over all of the heavy work.
The system has been put together by McCallums Group owner Wayne McCallum; utilising his knowledge, experience, and examples and ideas he has come across over many years in the industry.
While a complicated build process, it’s certainly about to simplify things.
The process:
- Bags of linen will be emptied into the sorting deck, where all of the linen will be sorted in bins
- The sorted linen will then be sucked up into a large pipe, then deposited into bags which will be hung on a conveyor belt from the ceiling
- The linen will then be deposited straight into the washer
Currently, the process is all completed by hand – so the change is set to have huge benefits.
The reduction in manhandling will no doubt be a key factor; limiting health and safety risks and allowing staff to concentrate on other areas. The move will also free up floor space and improve workflow throughout the factory.
There are also plans to streamline the scanning process; where every piece of linen will be shipped and scanned automatically.
It’s one of many ways McCallums Group is working smarter, to ensure faster and better outcomes for you – the customer.
